Monique began drinking at 17, and from that very first night she really loved the feeling it gave her. However, the more she drank, the more trouble it seemed to cause.
Blackout drinking quickly became the norm.
Monique became consumed by depression and anxiety. And when she lost her brother in her mid-20s, the floodgates really opened, leading to even more incomprehensible demoralisation.
A stint in a rehab sobered her up for a time, but a terrible relapse followed. And when she had a nasty car accident while drunk driving, Monique reached out for help from The Sydney Retreat.
Here’s how she describes her stay …
Honestly, it has saved my life…. and I don’t think any other place could have helped me. The way it is 12-step oriented is that I get to learn from people in recovery every day. I’m so grateful. I don’t know where I”d be without it. And It’s improved my whole family’s way of life.
‘It’s just the freedom. I felt like I was in a jail with my addiction. I literally had tried everything … but I didn’t understand the program. Being guided through it at TSR made all the difference.
It’s like I’ve been reborn.
