The Sydney Retreat Program

We Are Here To Help

As long as you want to fast-track your recovery while minimising the risks of potential relapse, there’s no better way to do so than to choose a residential treatment program. Similarly, to boost the chances of success, people dependent on alcohol and drugs are often advised to leave their homes and instead stay in a less distractive environment. That said, private residential, unlike public rehab centres or outpatient treatment programs, allow patients to concentrate on getting their lives back on track and nothing else.

Another benefit to attending a private residential treatment is the level of privacy that you or your loved one enjoys while focusing on recovery. Breaking bad habits can be challenging, and it takes extraordinary effort – one that may require getting out of the comfort zone to succeed. However, when patients are placed in a new environment where there’s no judgement and where everyone is focused on achieving similar goals, it becomes easy to push harder, express vulnerability, and even ask for help.

What makes us stand out?

The Sydney Retreat is a 20 bed facility located in Stanmore, Sydney. We provide a cost effective, affordable 30-day residential program modelled on the highly successful The Retreat USA, with success rates that far exceed that of any other public or private alcohol and drug rehabilitation program anywhere in the world.

We understand that the path to recovery is elusive, because we have been there. If it was as simple as an alcoholic or addict realising they need to stop drinking and remaining sober on the strength of some counselling or group sessions at a drug and alcohol treatment centre, then the relapse rates wouldn’t be so high. Achieving real long term drug and alcohol sobriety takes more than this. Many of our guests have been unsuccessful in staying sober from medical based rehabilitation centres but found longer term sobriety with The Sydney Retreat.

Proven Results:

A Supportive Environment

Our innovative residential program provides a non-clinical, mutual help approach to the problem of alcohol and drug dependency. This supportive, educational setting is grounded in the spiritual principles of AA. By providing a safe and supportive environment to study and practice these principles, we open the door to a life of contented sobriety.

According to Dr Stephen Jurd, director of the Sydney Retreat, the success of the Sydney Retreat model is in the application of the 12 Steps of recovery, and exposure to the recovery community.

The 12 Steps are so successful because they focus on a new way of life. When the drinker changes their attitudes and changes their behaviour, the staying sober part, which always seemed so elusive, all of a sudden becomes possible.

We provide an immersive, supportive, 30 day intensive program modelled on The Retreat USA. Our primary goal is to help our guests understand and practice the power of the 12 Step recovery program in a safe and supporting community environment.

30 Day Residential Program

The Sydney Retreat is a non-profit organisation which offers a proven and successful, evidence-based 30-day recovery program in a purpose built comfortable and supportive 20-bed accommodation facility.

The accommodation section includes fully accessible rooms and facilities for people with a disability.

Most guests will be sharing a room. There are some single rooms with ensuites but access to those will depend on their availability when you book.

Recovery means being free from drug and alcohol dependency and being able a way to live the life you’ve always wanted.

You will be introduced to members of the recovery community who have long-term sobriety, with the goal of fostering connections whilst being guided through the 12 Steps of recovery.

As one of Sydney’s best private rehabilitation centres, we pay attention to the quality of care, ensuring that behaviour change isn’t just another fancy phrase but a priority that’s deeply rooted in day-to-day activities, teachings, code of conduct, and belief system.

Our people

We are a group of men and women who have lived a life of addiction and who successfully applied the 12 Step program in our lives to be free from alcohol and drugs. We recognise the need for affordable residential facility that provides a solution to alcoholism and drug dependency.

Our Approach

Our evidence

A newly released Cochrane Review into Twelve Step Facilitated recovery (TSF), found “high certainty evidence” that Twelve Step facilitated programs designed to increase participation in Alcoholics Anonymous can lead to higher rates of continuous abstinence over months and years.

We provide an immersive, supportive, 30 day intensive program modelled on The Retreat USA. Our primary goal is to help our guests understand and practice the power of the 12 Step recovery program in a safe and supporting community environment.

Get Better Quicker With Residential Alcohol and Drug Treatment

Most private rehabs in Australia offer integrated care programs beyond counselling and abstinence to include physical therapy exercises, meditation, group sessions, etc. This ensures that every aspect of addiction is well catered for, resulting in higher chances of mental and emotional recovery.
