How to Leave a Gift in Your Will

Leaving a bequest is simple:

  1. Decide what type of gift you would like to leave (a percentage, a fixed amount, or a specific item).
  2. Discuss your intentions with your loved ones.
  3. Draft or update your Will with your solicitor, using the suggested wording below.

Suggested Wording

  • Residuary Bequest “I give, devise and bequeath to The Sydney Retreat (Steps Retreat (Australia)) free from all duties, the following ______ percentage OR the remainder of my estate and direct that the receipt of the Executive Director for the time being will be a sufficient discharge to my trustees.”
  • Pecuniary Bequest “I give, devise and bequeath to The Sydney Retreat (Steps Retreat (Australia)) the following $______ amount and direct that the receipt of the Executive Director for the time being will be a sufficient discharge to my trustees.”
  • Specific Bequest “I give, devise and bequeath to The Sydney Retreat (Steps Retreat (Australia)) free from all duties, the following ______ item/s and direct that the receipt of the Executive Director for the time being will be a sufficient discharge to my trustees.”
